John took me in after I attended The Chapman School of Seamanship. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of him and miss him.
John Day was born and raised in a boating community and had over 58 years "hands-on" experience in the boating industry. Beginning in 1958, he was a first mate on charter boats until acquiring his captain's license in 1968. In 1969 he then built and operated his own charter boat, while continuing to help build charter boats for others and also working as a commercial fisherman, until accepting a full-time position in 1991 as a private boat captain for over 16 years. He then decided to further his career by attending the Chapman School of Seamanship and became a graduate of the Yacht and Small Craft Surveying class.
John felt strongly about his company's due diligence of providing to his clients a professional and unbiased opinion as to the vessel's condition and value, any risks or concerns found without misrepresentation or omissions of facts relating to the vessel.
He instilled these values in ME and my Surveying.
